EXPERIENTIAL CONVERSATIONS — An Uncommon Lens

Each of the following presentations takes place on a Saturday and Sunday (11:00-1:00 EST). The cost of each 2-day presentation is $125. As we look in the mirror, and to our clients, these are the elements that arise again and again. More than diagnosis, they are aspects of a response vocabulary, which is often nested in the language of the generations.

Each presentation will be recorded. Participants will have access to the recording for one (1) week following the presentation dates. If you can’t attend the full live presentation, you can still register as normal to receive access to the recording for the following week.

Grief
Grief is a private journey even when surrounded by empathic listeners. I know nothing of yours. And, you know nothing of mine. In this way, we are both free. Grief lives inside of us and in the generations that brought us here. It is simple and complex. Together, we will find new ways to listen to Grief and to make a good place for it. As time goes on, it need not take every place. April 17 and 18, 2021

Anger
When we are in the clutches of anger, time stops. Everything feels present — though we usually are not. We will consider Anger from various angles: What impression did the anger of mothers and fathers make on us — is it just beneath the surface of now? What is the switch that gets flipped when we fall under its spell? What is mine and what belongs to others? Is there good Anger? Am I always just angry at myself in the end? May 15 and 16 , 2021

Shame and Guilt
Shame is a somatic experience. It drops into us like liquid heat — or it rises up, always an undercurrent waiting to be awakened. Shame is stimulated by outside triggers, though others may have no idea about them. Guilt is Shame's close companion, weighing heavy on our heart while keeping us from taking action. Together we will consider some of the origin stories of Shame and Guilt – the ways in which they have come to us through the generations – and how we might shift their impact moving forward. June 12 and 13, 2021

Perfectionism and Avoidance
A fresh lens on “perfectionism”: a type of fear-driven procrastination. It wears a haughty disguise but its purpose is to stop us … from risking, from stepping out into the unknown, from completion, and from growing into the next. In this way, it is a kind of avoidance, one that is well hidden from others and from ourself. Together we will look to what lies beneath the facade of Perfectionism and at where Avoidance began to dominate our compass. June 26 and 27, 2021

Entitlement
Entitlement is a trickster. It moves through the world with the statement, “I deserve,” but cheats us out of the experience of, “I have the ability.” Angrily I shout out, “But I should have …” while simultaneously I whisper into the mirror, “I don’t know how to get it … or get along without it.” The lesson comes from childhood, often a legacy of guilt, atonement, or compensation, in which we are bribed into forgetting the losses. Such compensation tends to be a burden moving forward. Together we will consider how entitlement — our own and our clients' — actually disempowers possibility. July 10 and 11, 2021

LGBTQIA+, Belonging, and a Family Constellations Lens
We are pleased to offer this presentation to introduce the unique lens of Family Constellation especially as it relates to belonging. Constellation opens a wide view onto the family system, revealing the broadest context of family dynamics, divisions, and triumphs. Uniquely poised to unveil the common ground of all beings, Family Constellations can offer those who have grown up as outliers — implicitly or explicitly told they don’t belong — a sense of deep belonging, peace, and embrace. Anxiety and Ambivalence
Anxiety takes up residence in the sliver of space between what was and what’s next. Often one is confused with the other so that as we think of the future, we call forth the past to tell us what to expect. Anxiety gives us more of itself, never anything new. It bullies the brain and the body. For those of us who have anxiety, Ambivalence often is a treasured companion. It protects us from uncertainty, keeps anxiety at arm’s length, but also keeps our capacity from growing. Together we will look at this intimate relationship — and look for ways to extricate ourselves from our dependence on it. July 24 and 25, 2021
